Elm Tree Primary Academy

Support

At Elm Tree Primary, we are committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive, both in school and at home. Sometimes children and families may need a little extra support, and our early help offer is designed to provide that support as soon as possible.

Early help is about identifying needs early and working together with children, parents, carers, and other professionals to prevent concerns from becoming more serious. Support is voluntary and focuses on building on the strengths of families while helping them access the right services at the right time.

We can offer advice, guidance and signpost support on a range of issues, including:

  • Attendance and punctuality
  • Emotional wellbeing and mental health
  • Parenting support
  • Family circumstances and life changes
  • Housing, financial, or practical difficulties
  • Accessing local services and community support.

Families Together

At Elm Tree, we have recently introduced ‘Families Together’, a parent and family programme designed to support children's social, emotional, and mental health through collaborative learning with schools.

Families Together is a series of workshops for parents, carers, and family members. It aims to provide families with understanding, practical approaches, skills, and a shared language to support their children's emotional development and wellbeing. The programme emphasises collaboration between schools and families, recognising that joint efforts improve children's behaviour, sense of belonging, and academic outcome.

Working on Worries

We are now pleased to be able to offer the ‘Working on Worries’ programme (in collaboration with Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health services) which aims to address child anxiety by teaching parents and carers cognitive behavioural strategies (e.g. identifying and testing thoughts, graded exposure and problem-solving) for supporting their children's worries. This approach is delivered in either face-to-face or online formats which both involve parents and carers working through a series of topics and strategies with support from trained staff.

If any additional support is needed, we may work with other agencies to develop a plan that is suited to your family's needs. We will always aim to work in partnership with families, keeping you informed and involved throughout the process.

If you have any concerns about your child or your family, or you would like to find out more about how we may be able to help, please speak to your child's class teacher or contact Mrs Baker (pastoral lead) or Mrs Dangerfield (pastoral support).

Support for Children, Parents and Carers

We have compiled a selection of trusted websites that provide guidance on a range of topics, including children's health and wellbeing, mental health, online safety, parenting, financial support, and family services.

These resources are intended to offer practical advice and signpost you to organisations that can provide further help if needed. We hope you find them useful, whether you are looking for information, reassurance, or support for your family.
